Christmas Should Be

Christmas should be lovely,

My husband and I together.

Snug and warm inside the home,

Safe from outside’s blustery weather.

Christmas should be mittens,

And snow sprinkled on your face.

Snowball fights, snowman making,

Our footprints happy chase.

Christmas should be chestnuts,

Yes, roasting over that open fire.

Putting up our Christmas tree,

Decorated with ornaments we acquire.

Christmas should be us,

Together, you and me.

Snuggles on the couch,

Behind the Christmas tree.

Christmas should be stars,

Lighting the moonlit skies.

Fresh snow sprinkled down,

Making the heavens shine.

This is what I think

Our Christmas should be.

But it’s kind of hard to imagine,

‘Cause you’re not here with me.

Why?

I don’t understand

Why He should care

I don’t understand

This heartache I bare.

I don’t understand

The love that He gave

I don’t understand

Why me He would save.

I don’t understand

How you cannot believe

I don’t understand

Why you make Him grieve.

I don’t understand

Why you fill your life with naught

I don’t understand -

Happiness can’t be bought.

I don’t understand

The empty hole you try to fill

I don’t understand

For these things can’t fulfill.

I don’t understand

The goal of your life.

I don’t understand

Why you reject Christ.

I don’t understand

Dear friend, I’m sorry.

I just don’t understand

Could you explain to me?

My heart is breaking

Within my being and soul

My heart is breaking,

For you, you know.

A life that fails to radiate

The love of God

Is just an empty shell,

A blind, vacant façade.

Your life is filled

But it’s empty too.

Your life is meaningless -

That dosen’t have to be true.

You can change,

Accept the Way.

Make the decision

To follow and obey.

Then your life will have true meaning,

Once you’ve accepted the Lord.

Your life will be overflowing

And your broken soul restored.

God will never abandon me

He’ll be always by my side.

He will be here for me

Through the winds of the tide.

Who?

See every mountain’s radiant peak,

And every glorious sun-swept sky.

Dear friend, when you see these

Do you ever think to wonder why?

The mountain peak didn’t make itself,

The sky didn’t construct its own glory.

How can you hear and not believe?

In that timeless, ageless old story?

For t’was for our sins Jesus died –

No matter the sacrifice and all

He was focused on His vision,

On the outcome, not the fall.

He was focused on His Father,

Focused on you, and on me.

And as He breathed his last,

He had but one final plea:

As He reached out for me,

And as He reached out for you

There was one thought in His mind

“My dear child, who will you choose?”

What Do You See?

What do you see,
When you look at me?
A plain looking girl,
Hair a mess of curls?

Too-full lips and brown eyes
Young looking and shy?
Too quiet and too silent
With a mystifying intent?

Diminutive, petite and short –
Not a friendly type of sort?
Too curvy to be appealing.
A heart, cold and unfeeling?

“The Ice Queen” some might say
When they see the nature I display.
I don’t know, maybe you’re scared of me,
But I don’t know why that would be!

I wonder, is that the truth?
Do you see me as sort of uncouth?
But I am so very far from that
Can’t you see what you look at?

If you look on the outside of me,
These might be things you’ll see.
But take a moment to look inside
And you might be nicely surprised!

My heart is caring, warm and gentle,
I’m loving and often sentimental.
If you would take a moment to look,
You’d see I’m living by the Book.

I’ve given my life to Jesus Christ
And my heart is very highly priced.
I’m gentle and caring and tender
My heart is full of surrender.

I so wish you would look within
See behind my blush and chagrin.
If you wouldn’t be so blind
Looking inside me you would find

A loving, caring, nurturing soul
One with a heart completely whole.
Waiting for someone to look behind my veil,
One who will notice every detail.

And if you're finally the one,
I'll give myself to you undone.
My friend, what do you see
After this, when you look at me?

Your Legacy

Your life is just a fleeting moment

In the endless march of time.

What will your legacy be,

When you’ve finished life’s climb?

Your days on this earth

Away so soon will pass.

How will you be remembered,

When you’ve breathed your last?

Will your legacy of love

Be remembered by all?

From the richest of men,

To the lowest child so small?

Will you share your life with God,

Who for you sent His Son to die?

Will you accept Jesus’ free gift,

And trust that He will supply?

Your life is just a fleeting moment

In the endless march of time.

What will your legacy be,

When you’ve finished life’s climb?

Amelia Bloomer

“Oh, flowers and more flowers!”

Amelia Bloomer said one day.

“I love all my flowers –

“In my garden and my bouquet"

Little Amelia Bloomer

Loved to grow her flowers!

She gave them lots of love and care

And warm and gentle showers.

She watered in the sun

And watered in the rain!

And then for good measure

She did it all again!

“Snapdragons are the best!”

Amelia told her Mama with glee.

“Yes, they are!” Mama said.

“They are very, very pretty!”

“I know,” nodded Amelia.

“But I like those too,”

She pointed to the roses.

“Oh, Mama, don’t you?”

Mama took Amelia in her arms.

“Dear, of course I like the rose.

But do you know what?”

Amelia grinned, “No, I don’t know.”

Mama smiled really big,

And held Amelia near.

“You are my very favorite flower!

My own special rosebud-dear!”

His mercies are new

Every fresh morning day.

Give your life to him

And all you do and say!

September 5, 2004

Would You?

Would you hold me in your arms

And shelter me from harm,

Tell me it’ll be alright

When I’m scared in the night?

Would you love me enough

To stay when times get tough?

Would you be strong to not lie

Even if the truth will make me cry?

Would you be my solid, unmoving rock

When problems come and knock?

Would you be brave enough to let me be

When I’m searching deep inside of me?

Would you give me all your love

Being careful not to hold me above

Our dear Lord in Heaven high

Though sometimes you wonder why?

Would you capture the wind for me

And hold it carefully for us to see?

Would you recognize God is Supreme

And of our marriage, the theme?

Would you, I ask once and for all

Be faithful to His whispering call?

Though many should shout

Would you never ever doubt?

Would you break the morning dew,

Racing the dragonfly as away it flew?

Would you, I inquire, my good man,

Would you be worthy of my hand?

Would you?

ThE HaZY DaYs Of SuMmEr

The hazy days

     of summer

          are here.

          Time for fun,

               fellowship and

                    friends so dear.

                    Beautiful gardens,

                         fresh veggies

                              for lunch

                              And summer

                                   chores we

                                        love so much.

                                        Time spent

                                              with family,

                                                  And time

                                                       spent apart.

                                                       The distance

                                                            of summer

                                                            Is held close

                                                                 by the

                                                                      heart.

Woven Threads

A woven thread –

Just one simple string.

Woven threads –

Of glorious colors sing.

Of love, of faith.

Of tenderness, of trust.

Of sun’s strong light

Or storm’s tempestuous gust.

Threads woven,

Into the fabric of life.

 Different occupations –

Police, farmer, wife,

Threads woven,

By the Hand Above.

Lovingly entwined

With His Fingers of Love.

Our lives are woven,

With threads such as these.

Tenderly fashioned, by the

Creator of the mighty seas.

Woven threads,

Our lives are created by Jesus.

Woven threads,

The fabric of life’s success.

Consider the Lilies

“Consider the lilies,”

It says in the Word

They toil not, they spin not

And yet it was concurred.

Solomon in all his glory

Was not arrayed like one of these

Lilies, you see, are special

For Him above they please.

The Lily stands for purity

And for Christ our Savior, as well.

He is the Lily of the Valley

He’ll purify us and help us dwell

Dwell in Him alone

We can’t get caught up in the things of this world

The trappings and the other stuff

In which it is so easy to get swirled!

So I say again, “Consider the Lily!”

The Lily of the Valley, God, is He.

And in Him alone, must we dwell.

Then we will have such a jubilee!

Where Will I Be?

My dear Lord, where shall I be –

Ten years from now?

Where will you have me -

Ten years from now?

Where will I be serving –

Ten years from now?

What will I be learning –

Ten years from now?

What heavy loads will burden my back –

Ten years from now?

What character qualities will I still lack –

Ten years from now?

What things will be in my heart –

Ten years from now?

Of Your will, will I be doing my part –

Ten years from now?

Will I live the life of Christ –

Ten years from now?

Will I reflect Jesus in my life –

Ten years from now?

Will I be a doer of the Word –

Ten years from now?

Will I be constantly serving my Lord –

Ten years from now?

Will I be consistently seeking You –

Ten years from now?

Will I be doing the things I’m supposed to do –

Ten years from now?

Will I be happy where You place me –

Ten years from now?

My dear Lord, where shall I be –

Ten years from now?

My Life's Prayer

May my soul find rest in God alone.

My life and faith blessedly atoned.

Salvation is mine from Him

A precious gift freely giv’n.

He alone is my rock and my salvation –

My fortress, and may I never be shaken.

May my soul find faith alone in God

Along this path so heavily trod.

May my hope come only from Him -

He paid the price for all my sins.

May I trust in Him at all times,

Trust in Him with everything my heart finds.

May I pour my heart out to my Lord

And keep my mind, soul and spirit in one accord.

Dear God, you alone are my refuge.

And may I always remain steadfastly rooted in You.

The seed of the Word

Sown in our hearts

Weeded & watered with care,

Of sin, no longer apart.

Living by the spirit

Walking with my Lord

Daily reading the Bible,

His holy, written Word.

Bring forth fruit,

In depths of deepest despair.

 Bringing forth fruit

In heights of highest air.

Clinging to the cross,

Though doubts and fears assail

Clinging to the cross,

For He will never fail.

~ To Hannah ~

Dear friend and gentle heart,

My dearest Hannah Mary,

Today is a beautiful day,

Warm and bright and cheery.

The sun is shining joyfully,

As I pen these words to you.

I pause for a moment and reflect

On to me, all you say and do.

You are the dearest friend,

A delight to be sure.

Pure as gold and rubies,

As fine as scented myrrh.

You’ve helped me through a hard time

A time of learning and refining, too.

You’ve taught me in your ways

To always remain true –

To incline my ear to hear,

Be faithful to the Lord,

Pray with all supplication,

Spend time in His Word.

You’ve taught me that

Avoiding conflict isn’t always best –

Instead, meet problems head-on

With zeal and with zest,

But to use wisdom as well,

Coming before God in prayer.

Casting my troubles on Him

When I fall to the depths of despair.

Hannah, I thank you for your smile –

A light in this darkened world.

Your heart is joyful beyond measure,

Like the rarest rose, petals unfurled.

Dear friend and gentle heart,

My dearest Hannah Mary,

Thank you for loving me

And helping my load to carry.

You’re not only a friend,

You’re my sister too.

I love you so much, dear.

Thank you for being you.

Spring Is Here!

The sun doth brightly shine-

The cloud’s stormy blast resign.

The call of spring is here-

The flower buds clap and cheer.

The call of winter is at long last done

As a race finally ran and won.

The breeze blows gentle and calm

From winter harsh to soothing balm.

Soon the garden will grow with delight-

Relieved from winters cold loathsome bite.

 The sun doth brightly shine-

The cloud’s stormy blast resign.

Good Advice?

“Move out, get a boyfriend!”

When will it ever end?

All this advice

Really isn’t nice!

I know my plans-

You have to understand!

I know you mean to help

But I’m about to yelp!

I know what God wants me to do with my life

Be a mother and a writer and a wife.

To raise children to be strong in my God –

This is where my feet will trod.

To be a wife, loving, caring, worthy of praise.

Serving my husband all of my days.

To be a writer, dedicated to spreading God’s word

To people who have and haven’t heard.

So thanks for your advice –

And even for telling me twice!

I know you mean to help –

But I’m really about to yelp!

‘Cause I know what God wants me to do with my life

Be a mother and a writer and a wife!

In depths of despair

I cry out to Him

Storm clouds roll by-

Yes, He’s there in the dim.

April 21, 2004

The rain falls gently down

Making a soft pitter-patter sound.

God said he cares about the tiny sparrow-

How much more His love for you flows!

I’ve looked low-

I’ve looked high-

Yes, I’ve looked everywhere-

God’s right by my side.

‘Tis never been me

‘Tis always been Thee.

‘Twill never be me-

But ‘twill always be Thee.

God, I didn’t do the

Right thing today.

I fell from the path

And so horribly strayed.

My hand slipped,

As it often does.

I don’t know why.

I guess just because.

Christ, You are my

Savior, my All in All.

May I always be faithful

To Your whispering call.

For my hands often slip

As I reach for worldly things

But Jesus, You are my Lord

And to Your cross I’ll cling.

During these times of trouble

And during times of joy

You will always be faithful

And never ever destroy.

I’ll cling to the cross of Jesus

Simply trust and obey

For in You there is victory-

There is no other way.

To Those Who Tease

(Read This Please!)

Hello there, please read this little rhyme

And your understanding will be sublime!

You’ll see why I prefer you don’t tease

About boys & guys & birds & bees.

You’ll see why you shouldn’t kid me

About liking a boy from Tennessee.

(Or about liking any boy for that matter)

So please listen and cut the chatter!

For one, my friendship with him

Could be destroyed or even ruined.

And I believe Jesus would not agree -

Though you don’t mean to hurt when you tease.

I prefer to think of young men as brothers

And not be given to my druthers.

Young men are my brothers in Christ

Do you see now why my heart is so highly price?

And this will be hard if you tease me about him -

I’m only human and oftime given to whim!

So please don’t toy with my emotions-

As wide and vast as the oceans.

Dear friend, now do you understand why don't I support

And I take a stand against teasing of this sort?

And congratulations too!

My written words –

How few.

My good deeds –

How few.

My good works –

Are nothing.

My righteousness’ –

Are nothing.

God I’m so unworthy

To come before You.

There’s nothing I

Can say or do.

You are Omnipotent,

God Most High.

And the time of Your

Return draws nigh.

Praise You God

For the unfolding

Of the precious

Child You’re holding.

A rose bud,

Tightly clasped,

Blossoms unfurled,

Petals upon the grass.

The seasons of life

Are as these.

Swift and sure

As the blowing breeze.

The death of Your Son

Has taken my blame.

Mine blotted out –

With the blood of His Name.

My Redeemer,

My Savior,

My Friend,

And Father.

You are Omnipotent,

God Most High.

And the time of Your

Return draws nigh.

Where, O grave, is thy sting?

O, my Abba Father!

He responds to me –

“No, you’re not a bother!”

Abhorrence to the Lord –

Is all sin.

God’s washed me with His Word –

From all sin.

Lord, You are able –

To do anything You wish.

Like feed 5,000 people –

With ten loaves & two small fish.

The death of Your Son

Has taken my blame.

My sins blotted out –

I’ll never, ever be alone –

I have Your Book, my guarantee.

Dearest Husband,

I thought about you today.

I wondered what you were doing

As you go about your way.

I saw a couple tonight,

So very much in love they were.

The sight made my heart ache.

My eyesight became a blur.

Their hands entwined,

Clasped tightly in embrace

Cheek to soft cheek,

Staring at the others dear face.

What need of words,

In a picture such as this?

What needs of words,

In this portrait of loving bliss?

So I missed you tonight.

I missed your arms around me.

The peace and loving comfort –

Darling, don't you see?

I miss you, I love you.

Tonight especially, you'll observe.

I'm waiting for you, love.

I've got your place reserved!

Hello, Lily!

Today is the last day of VBS.

And you’re a little sad, I’d guess!

Don’t worry, I am too.

I’m sure going to miss you!

We learned a lot these last few days.

We’ve memorized, colored and prayed.

You were such a wonderful student –

How very fast these days went!

During this coming year,

I’ll be praying for you, dear.

God bless you as you grow.

You’re such a pleasure to know!

Love always,

            Miss Terra

Sundrops

Sundrops around me fly

Happiness flowing by

Today is bright and great

The sun, heavens gate!

“I Love You”

The clouds cast in a silver lining,

The sun a brilliant golden sphere.

Alone, I watch the sun go down

Wishing that you were here.

The fields roll gently by

Green, and lush, and wet.

I wonder where you are,

Why I haven’t met you yet.

I went to another wedding today,

T’was so sweet and nice.

But I found myself missing you

And wishing I was your wife.

Golden orange colors,

‘Mingled with pink and blue

Just wanted to write you this,

To say again, “I love you.”

Ode To A Loon

I hear a mournful cry,

As I sit upon my swing.

A glorious loon flies by,

Strength cast from wing to wing.

A haunting sound from his beak

Emits from me a shiver.

There are no words to speak –

His flight, effortless as the river.

An elegant, graceful head,

Held as if cast in stone.

Wondering what he said

As he cries his mournful tone.

His song sings of wisdom,

I realize as I sit.

The azure sky his kingdom –

He’s a master in it.

The swing slowly stills

As my eyes follow one time more

The sun fades behind the hills –

From shore to lapping shore –

This glorious loon flies by

Strength cast from wing to wing.

I hear his haunting cry –

As master he sings.

Hi Sweetheart

Forgotten my crocheting again,

So now I’ll write to you.

The night sky’s beautiful –

A shadowy robins egg blue.

The sun’s going

Down behind the trees.

The vibrant colors

Painting a striking scene.

The lake is

Calm and clear.

At the stream stands

The panting deer.

I wish you were here,

Enjoying these sights with me.

Know I’m waiting for you –

And LOVING you, my darling.

A Tea Party!

A steaming cup of tea-

Friend, would you share with me?

Please, take a cookie-take one or two!

They will be crisp and sweet for you to chew.

We can talk of gardening, of cooking and love

We can share our thoughts of our Father above.

A big lazy bee is buzzing by

Stopping to rest on pretty bright flowers nearby.

We can share our dreams and our hopes

What things make us sad and what makes us mope!

The clouds move languidly through the sky

Drifting along on the winds so high.

We can love each other as God loved us.

We can strive to one another bless!

Oh, do be careful – your tea is hot!

A hummingbird sits on a blue forget-me-not.

We can put our armor on, bein’ in this world.

We can strengthen our bond as sisters in the Lord.

A steaming cup of tea -

Dear friend, thanks so for sharing with me!

D rops in God’s Watering Can

A watering can, simple and sweet

Sits on the ground, down by my feet.

The outside glistens with tiny drops of dew -

Much more then just one or two.

T he handle is solid and strong

Firm to grasp and carry ‘long.

The watering can is cheerful and merry,

Happy like a bright yellow canary.

T he water inside is filled to the brim -

Nearly overflowing with moisture from within.

Beth, I encourage you – this is how we must be!

Simple and sweet, joyful and happy.

G listening with the dew of our Savior

Spreading His light with the kindness of our behavior!

Cheerful and merry, a face of glad contentment bear.

Overflowing in His righteousness, and always in prayer.

B eth, thanks for being my sister, my friend

Thanks for all the love and joy you send.

Dear, you’ve taught me so many things.

You are a special daughter of our King!

A shining beacon, simple and sweet-

Beth, that is how you are seen!

Always seek and follow God’s flawless plan,

For you are the drops in God’s watering can!

I’m sorry for what you’re going through.

And will always be your loving Guide!

Our Eyes Are Windows

As I walk, wherever I go

I see eyes - brown, blue, green and gold.

I laugh with joy as I see the friends I make-

Hannah, Beth, Justin and Jake.

They remind me of another thing too

Something important, for me and for you.

Our eyes are the windows to our soul.

Have you heard that or didn’t you know?

Look out a window – what do you see?

The sun brightly shining or the day in darkness be?

Are your windows clean, or covered in streaks?

What kinds of things do you actually see?

Is the view clean?  Spotless and clear?

The things you see, do they make you laugh or shed a tear?

For the view of your eyes will reflect your soul

The view of your eyes will bring joy or sorrow.

So take care as you travel though life

Have ‘windows’ cleaned of anger and strife.

Because just as an unclean window shows,

Your eyes are the windows to your soul.

{This is a poem I ghostwrote to be from Mom to Dad}

Scott, I love you.

Much more then words can say

Go out with me tonight –

A perfect end to this day!

I’m inviting just you

To a dinner of walleye -

Candles, music, and romance

The limit will be the sky!

We don’t do this as

Much as we should,

But tonight, dear,

Do you think we could?

I’ve already got a babysitter

Waiting and in line

So what do you say,

Ready for a grand ole’ time?

Just say the word,

And I’ll make the reservation.

What is your answer, Scott,

To my lovely invitation?

The snow is falling.

My name ‘tis calling.

Puffy white cotton balls –

On my nose they gently fall!

The world around me is covered

In satiny whiteness undiscovered.

With undiscovered romance

These tiny little flakes dance.

Something about the snow reminds

Me of thoughts of these kinds,

But I don’t know why.

I see something up high –

Oh, now I see you there!

Hovering about in the air.

I can’t make you out –

But I won’t be filled with doubt.

Your features are unclear

And yet I know you are near.

I know you’re there!

I won’t despair!

I know you’re waiting for me

 Somewhere beyond what I see.

I’m saving my heart for you alone –

As far as I can see my future is unknown.

But that is okay!

I’ve given Him my future today.

I know I’m to trust Him

And not be given to whim.

Of this one or that one,

I will take none-

Except that which God has given to me

No, I don’t know who that will be!

But I’ll wait, as the snowflakes descend.

I’ll wait, for my very special friend.

I know it won’t be easy.

There’ll be days I feel very dreary.

Tired of waiting.

Oh, so tired of waiting.

The snow is falling.

My name it is calling.

Puffy white cotton balls –

On my nose they gently fall!

The world around me is covered

In satiny whiteness undiscovered.

With undiscovered romance

These tiny little flakes dance.

I know you’re waiting for me

Somewhere beyond the snowflakes I see.

Have you tried to grasp time

In the palm of your hand?

Or used your fingertips to

Hold a tiny grain of sand?

Have you smelt the

Fleeting aroma of pine?

Seen dandelion seeds

Will-o-wisp design?

Lord, help me to live every minute

Waiting on and living my life for You.

Our time is precious, our time is Yours.

Thank you for everything You give and do!

Unpredictable Me!

Bright green leaves,

Cheerful yellow daises.

Some days I don’t

Know what I’ll be!

A cherry blossom,

So airy and light.

A purple queen tulip

As dark as the night.

Warm zinnia colors,

A pinwheel ‘round.

Clouds of lavender phlox,

Creeping 'long the ground.

A perfect red rose-

Graceful, long-stemmed glory.

Some days I’m that,

Some days this is me.

My days are different –

None are the same.

Some day I’m a known flower,

Others I don’t know the name!

Looking across my field of friends,

Every kind of flower I see.

But I’m really just one

Unpredictable flower called me!

Misplaced Soul Mates?

Sometimes I wonder,

Did God make a mistake?!

Did he put on another planet

My husband and soul mate?

Is he sitting away on Mars

Looking down onto earth?

Is he smiling up on Jupiter

Unable to contain his mirth?!

Is he really out there -

Maybe sitting on the Milky Way?

Is he riding the Aurora Borealis

Skimming down the brilliant rays?

Oh, my Lord, how I wonder!

Where is the one God chose for me?

Is he a ‘misplaced soulmate?’

How I wish there was a guarantee!

I know what my sister will say

“Terra girl you need to straighten up!”

Of course, I know she’s right.

I nod my head and just say “Yup!”

But then, I can’t help but wonder -

Is he really out there, waiting for me?

And does he ever stop to think

About how our life together will be?

How about you?

Each time I walk outside

I find there is no place to hide.

No one is around.

I hear no sound.

The trees are silent and still

And yet my thoughts are filled.

The birds are quiet

But my minds in a riot.

The chipmunks aren’t chattering

But my thoughts are scattering.

With what are they filled?

Thoughts condensed and distilled.

Condensed –

Retaining only the most important parts.

Distilled –

Removing the impurities from my heart.

Oh, there!  Balanced high on her perch

A chickadee sings to the little white church.

Now I’m filled with a song inside too!

How about you??

 Fall Is Very Special

(If You Take The Time To Look)

As the golden leaf falls to the ground

It makes a soft, quiet, whispering sound.

As it flutters through the brisk fall air,
The vivid rays of the sun show their last glare.

‘Tis true, the landscape appears bare,

Unless you take the time to carefully stare.

You’ll see that fall is a special season of its own

If you open your eyes to God's nature, you will be shown.

The skies are dotted with puffy white clouds.

On the trees, the vibrant golden foliage is their shroud.

The air is crisp and clear,

Foreboding of winters coming return; its almost here!

The graceful doe, the delicate fawn

Look up from the ground; their alert eyes to danger are drawn.

The woolly bear and our friend the skunk

Prepare to hibernate these winter months.

The fingers of night chase away the last gleams of day.

With his indigo feathers, I spy the striking blue jay.

He sits on the branch of the pine, preparing for his trip to where it’s warm.

So you see, if you pause to look, this seemingly barren landscape will be transformed.

You will see that fall is a special season of its own

If you open your eyes to the wonders of Gods nature, you will be shown.

As you listen to the golden leaf as it falls to the ground,

It makes a quiet, soft, whispering sound.

Anger

The black haze on the horizon

Don’t give leave to think the sun is shinin’.

Trees blow, the skies are dark.

Birds have flown; the dove, the robin, the lark.

The clouds are angry, spewing their rage

Filling the rain catcher’s silent gauge.

The winds roar loud and strong

Crying their ancient groaning song.

A black hole surrounds me.

Far as my eyes can see.

There is an emptiness inside.

And I don’t know how to hide.

Raindrops

Rain drops on my head

Tip-tip tapping away

Are these your tears,

Vast in dripping array?

Drops one and two

Fall right on my nose.

Is this is how it is for you,

How missing me goes?

The drops don’t stop,

They keep coming madly.

Are you missing me,

Dear, just this badly?

A Warrior For God

People today long to find worth.

Some people turn to fame, to pleasures.

They look for satisfaction in many ways.

Some people turn to power, to treasures.

But some people already know

The only way to find purpose-

The One and Only Way-

Is by turning to Christ Jesus.

By becoming warrior for God-

Willing to give your life for another

A warrior for God-

Aiming to honor father’s and mother’s.

A warrior for God-

Ready each day to do battle and to fight

A warrior for God

A person in search of not wrong but right.

A warrior for God-

Freely giving all God’s given to you

A warrior for God-

Turning to The Only One that is True.

A warrior for God-

Loving each person without regard

A warrior for God-

Loving even though it’s sometimes hard.

A warrior for God-

Dedicating your life to get the job done

A warrior for God-

Following our All in All, God’s only Son.

So how will you find your worth?

By turning to fame, to pleasures?

Will you look for satisfaction in many ways?

Turning to power, to treasure?

Or will you be a warrior for God?

Find your fulfillment in our Risen Lord?

I beg you, my friend, be a Warrior For God.

Make your choice today-its not to be ignored!

The Voice

I hear a voice say, “Drop everything,”

“For only then will you be ready for what I will bring.”

“Drop everything you are doing now, and completely trust Me.”

“For that’s the only way you can be truly free.”

But I think with rationale, I cannot.

There are things to do, people to see and things to be bought.

I have to go to college

And help others by having a professional knowledge.

But He says, “My way is better.”

“I’ve written you, and you need to read My Letter.”

“Come.  Come and let Me show you the way.”

“Give Me your future, and your today!”

“Drop it all and come and follow and trust Me.”

I know this must be my earnest plea!

“Let Me show you the truth.”

“Let Me show you the way to life, too.”

“Drop it all and come and follow Me.”

“Please trust Me completely.”

“Just let go of it ~ I love you!”

“I want you to sup with Me, let Me be your refuge.”

The Voice, so gentle, so patient, so tender.

It’s almost more then I can bear.

“I will protect you.  It’s okay.”

“At My feet your burdens you must lay.”

“The Deceiver can’t harm you.  I am the Lord.”

“And I am greater then the ruler of this world.”

“Just come.  I will keep you.”

“Come as you are, let Me take you.”

“Let Me have it all.  All of it.”
”To Me alone must you be devoted.”

“Don’t hold onto any of it.  Just give.”

“Give it all to Me.  And let Me make the way for you to live.”

So full of patience and love.

And I think to myself in view of this Voice from above:

How can He love me after all the evil I’ve thought and done?

Why can He love me so after my wrong?

And He responds with a silence

As if to say “I am love.”  I am quiet with reverence.

In the quiet He continues His call,

“And love knocks down walls.”

“Love overcomes death, and sin”

“Oh, please, my child, let Me in!”

He has patiently pursued me.

I have denied it, though I do know He is trustworthy.

But I have committed too many sins~

I am not fit to be a child of the King.

But I will fail.  But how can you use me?

But I am not good enough, not good enough for Thee.

But I can’t ‘til I get out of college. I am supposed to do this first

Are some of the things I’ve nursed.

And again He responds to me,

With just a silence in face of my plea.

As if to say, “I am love.”

This is what the Voice says from above.

“And love overcomes death, and sin.”

“Oh, please, my child, let me in!”

“This is the gift send down from above.”

“This perfect love.  My love.”

October 12, 2003

It’s happened again, my Lord.

Another door has just been closed.

These thoughts of marriage and love

Have evaporated, as a raindrop from above.

Thank you Lord for this gives me hope

The lesson You’ve shown won’t make me mope!

Now I have faith that another one,

A better man is yet to come.

And how must I wait?

For this very special date?

The role of spiritual,

Physical and emotional

Best friend belongs only to him.

And it is my duty to preserve it for him.

Oh my dear Lord, where would I be

If I didn’t have Your loving mercy?

A rose is a rose

Not any other name-

A rose is a rose

T’will never change.

A woman is a woman

That is what God made me -

A woman is a woman,

Something I’m proud to be.

A man is a man

For me God made a special one-

A man is a man

Someday I’ll find my dear ‘Hon.

A marriage is a marriage

Something God designed with love-

A marriage is a marriage,

A gift from Him above.

A rose is a rose

Not any other name-

A rose is a rose

T’will never change.

Lord, I pray for my husband right now.

You alone know who, and how.

Bless him today

As he goes on his way.

Help make him strong

Please keep him from wrong.

Be with him and be his guide

Let him never from You hide.

Instead, let him daily be

Growing more to be like Thee.

A man very rich and famous, I’ve no need

But a man to love You, to seek You, and You him heed.

To search for heaven’s treasure, be rich in the Lords righteousness

See, he needn’t be famous!

His looks aren’t important to me

But for a heart of solid gold I plea.

A hard worker, but not just to bring home the dough

For him to lead us in devotions to better You know.

Let him be gentle and caring and tender, too

And most of all, bring You honor in all he will say and do.

Hand in hand

And heart to heart.

Lord please give me my man -

I’ll do my part.

Let our hands intertwine

Our fingers clasp tightly together.

Our love be a well-watered vine,

A light-in-the-air delicate feather.

Let our hearts meld as one

As our souls cling to His.

Let us take our cares to the Son,

Glorious One with which we will one day live.

A friend is a calm in the storm-

A cup of tea all hot and warm.

A friend is a delicate rose-

A shoulder to listen to my woes.

Friendship is being there

For me when I’m down.

Friendship is changing my

Face to a smile from a frown!

A friend is someone who

Brightens my day with a smile.

Someone who is kind and

Sweet, not mean or hostile!

A warm hello, a gentle

Word from the heart-

A friend is someone

Who will act this part.

Friendship is a precious

Gift to nurture and treasure.

A true friend is a great

Gift completely beyond measure!

Friends share,

They don’t compare.

Friends care-

We need friends like this everywhere!

Merry Christmas,

Dad and Mom!

‘Tis Christmas Day

In winters calm.

This book you hold

In your hands

Are most of the poems

Of your Terra Ann’s.

As we sit, the lights of the

Tree are twinkling;

And the snow is

Delicately sprinkling.

This collection

Is for you;

A thanks for

Seeing me through

For yet another

Year you’ve shown~

You’ve taught, you’ve

Shared, you’ve grown.

This has been a

Year of firsts for me.

Thanks for being there,

Even if you didn’t always agree.

I’ve learned a

Lot this past year~

And have shed more

 Then one tear!

It means a lot to me to

Have parents that care.

To know you’re

Upholding me in prayer.

So Dad and Mom, this

Is for you with love!

I know I can’t begin to

Return what you’ve shared of.

Please enjoy this little

Token from me to you,

Know I’ll be praying for

You all this next year through!

So on this bright and glorious

Morning of Christmas 2003,

I thank my dear Lord

On a bended knee.

I’m thanking my Lord

For the parents He’s given,

For their love and

Because I’m forgiven.

 So Merry Christmas,

Dad and Mom!

‘Tis Christmas Day

In winters calm.

The lights of the

Tree are twinkling;

The snow is

Delicately sprinkling.

This book you hold

In your hands

Are most of the poems

Of your Terra Ann’s.

I love you both

So very much!

Lots of love, hugs,

Kisses and such!

Our Words Leave Footprints

As I walk in the fresh and new fallen snow
I leave my footprints wherever I go.

I laugh with joy when I see the footprints I make
Crisp and clear… and yet so easy to break.

This reminds me of another thing, too.
Something important, for me and for you.

Footprints, like words, are easy to make.
Words, like footprints, easy to break.

We can
never take back the words that we say –
Same as the footprints we leave on our way.

So take care as you travel though life
Leave footprints free of anger and strife.

Because just as we walk through the new fallen snow,
Our words leave footprints wherever we go.

When, Lord?

My heart feels lonely

As I watch the love around me.

The curly tendrils of love wind~

Like fingers clasp and tightly bind.

Love encases the ones I know

But when will I have my own beau?

Rejoice in the greatness of God –

His mercy’s are new every morning.

He does many wonderful things –

With his hands my life He is forming.

I Must Trust You Lord

Oh Lord I must trust You

For You told me You have a plan.

When doubts and fears assail me

I must look to the Son of Man.

Today my thoughts haven’t been where they ought to be

I was thinking things that weren’t proper for You

About birds and bees and storks and such,

Cupids dart and violets blue.

Romantic thoughts filled my head.

Like butterflies flitting about.

Thoughts of love and marriage you see-

More then I could count.

Then I remembered, my dear Lord.

That I am Yours, and Yours alone.

And You have a plan for

Your precious child- I am Your own.

So help me Lord!

When fears and doubts assail me

To give my thoughts, feelings and desires to You

And keep my eyes focused only on Thee.

Piano Players Prayer

Lord help me now as I sit down here

Let me feel Your presence near.

With each note, let it be my aim

To glorify Your holy name!

The ones that listen to me-

May they fix their eyes solely on Thee.

Guide my fingers now I pray

Let my music be Your witness today.

Oh Lord I ask for guidance in everything I do

And please make my music an instrument of You!

A Quiet Winter Day

As the snow falls to the ground

It makes a soft, quiet, whispering sound.

The trees are covered in this cottony layer-

Kind of like new white clothes they wear.

The snow is falling lightly

And looking oh-so-nicely.

The sight fills me with quiet, and also cheer

As out to the backyard I peer.

The graceful deer, the scampering mice

Leave their footprints scattered thrice.

My mind turns to my Savior-

My Lord and my Creator.

I know that He loves me so-

He gave me His Word to better Him know!

May I seek to continually be

More and more like Thee.

Thank you Lord for Your goodness and grace

For showing me the kindness of Your Face.

These soft, quiet snowflakes cling to everything I see

If God could make these so perfectly, how much more you and me!

Please help me, Lord, to seek Your will

And of Your voice, never have my fill.

What is Forgiveness?

Words can paint a picture

As pretty as can be

But words of forgiveness are special words

That must be said in all sincerity.

“Forgive us our debts

As we have forgiven

Our debtors,” Matthew 6:12

Is where that verse is in.

In this verse,

 Can you see?

That God wants us to forgive others

As He has forgiven you, and me.

Here is another one:

Peter has come to Jesus and asks this question:

“Lord, how many times shall I forgive my

Brother, when it is against me that he sins?”

Peter adds to his Lord, “Up to seven times?”

Well, that sounded like a good number to him.

Do you remember how Jesus answered Peter?

How did His voice sound? Perhaps a little grim?

“I tell you the truth,”

Jesus says to His friend.

“Not seven times alone,

But 77 times your forgiveness you must extend.”

So what is forgiveness?

I ask myself this question.

Where can I find the answer?

Alas, the key is already in my possession.

The Holy Bible,

God’s Word given to us,

Should help us understand

The question we discuss.

Forgiveness is love

And love keeps no record of wrongs

Love is always forgiving.

Hate, fear, and sin do not belong.

We must bless the one that harms us.

Do good in the face of bad.

Since we are all in need of forgiveness from God,

We need to be willing to forgive, and not be mad.

So what have we learned today?

Words can paint a picture, as pretty as can be

But words of forgiveness are special words

That must be said in all sincerity.

So please, my friend.

If there is someone who has wronged you,

Please, your forgiveness will you extend?

Why Do We Have Rainbows?

When you see a rainbow in the sky

Do you ever wonder why?

Is there purpose for the rainbow?

I ask myself as I rub my pursed brow.

I think of the rainbow I saw the other day.

It was a double one, simply beautiful in its array.

The colors glistened in the evening skies

Touches of sapphire blue and golden yellow filled my eyes.

Is the only object of the rainbow

To get to the pot of gold below?

Or is the purpose of this beautiful creation

Simply the path to another location?

Did you catch that word I just said?

“Creation” is the word you just read.

Is that what a rainbow is?

A creation made by the Hands of His?

Is it more then just leprechaun and his pot of gold?

More then just a colorful road?

Let us look to the Bible to see

What He says to you and me.

I think God tells us in His Word

That to believe in leprechauns is absurd!

“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be

The sign of the covenant between the earth and me,”

It says in Genesis chapter nine verse thirteen.

So what does this mean?

A rainbow is the sign of God’s love

A gift from His precious Hands above!

A rainbow is a sign

Of our Lord’s touch divine.

The sight of a rainbow fills me with quiet

Calms my heart and minds riot.

So now, when you see a rainbow in the sky

Will you think of why?

Will you remember what God promised His children of great worth?

“Never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

So again I think of the rainbow I saw the other day.

The double one, simply beautiful in its array.

The colors glistened in the evening skies

Touches of sapphire blue and golden yellow filled my eyes.

Praise You Lord for Your gifts so great!

And thank You for the wonders You create!

What Will This New Season Bring?

As winter steps aside for spring,

I wonder what this new season will bring.

Growing closer to You

In all I say and do.

Learning Your ways

And giving You praise.

Respond positively to correction

Respect my authority and exercise self-discipline.

Cheerfully obeying~

Without delaying.

Love one another as I love myself

And not leave my Bible, dusty, on the shelf.

A Get-Well-Soon Poem for Patti

Hello, dear Patti!

I hear your feeling ill

A bit under the weather

With little bit ‘o chills.

It’s not much fun to be sick ~

I know that to be true!

Maybe you’re feeling gimpy

And a little queasy too.

I just wanted to let you know

That I’m praying for you up here ~

Up here in ‘da sticks!

I pray this little poem will bring you some cheer.

I’m sure it’s beautiful down at your place

With the little pond behind your house,

The pretty fall trees with the golden foliage,

The graceful deer and shy little mouse.

God knows each and everything in our hearts

Things that trouble us, and also things that cheer

Cast your cares upon Him and He shall sustain thee

His promise is most sincere!

I wish we could get together more often ~

Don’t you?

Thank you for being my friend

And for each and every kind thing you do!

So as you read this little poem

Your friend Terra wrote for you with love

I hope you’re feeling better, and

I’m praying for you to Our Father above!

It’s Time To Give You The Pen (Again)

Lord, I’m sitting here again

And its time once more to give you the pen.

I was feeling pretty lonely today~

It was hard even to pray.

I let feelings get hold of me

Feelings of loneliness, discontent and I guess plain old misery.

I know it was not the right thing to do-

I am supposed to keep my eyes focused on You.

I’m sorry, Jesus, for not doing what was right!

I must remember that You are the way, You are the truth and You are the light.

I mustn’t let the Deceiver get ahold of me so.

I must rebuke him and make him go!

Dear God, you know the desires of my heart ~

For you created me in my mother’s inmost parts.

To be committed to my husband for life

Oh, how I so want to be his wife!

Help me to remember when doubts and fears assail me

That to You, and to You alone must I flee.

So I’m giving You the pen,

Dear Lord, once again.

Seasons of Flowers, Seasons of Love

 A handful of peonies,

given by a bashful beau

And a flower of innocence, a pure white rose.

The flower of her refusal, a striped carnation?

Nay, she sends forsythia, a sign of her anticipation.

The two exchange at the beginning of their courtship

Wisteria, a symbol of their budding friendship.

The color of her innocence, a white carnation,

Sweet William speaks of him as a ‘forever gentleman.’

The water lily shows her pure heart

All is saved, not just a part.

The hibiscus he gives shows her grace,

She returns to him sweet pea, flower of shyness that shows on her face.

A lily is given to show her purity

And from him, a daffodil, the flower of chivalry.

Her modesty is shown in a violet

In the clematis, her God-given intellect.

In declaring his love,

A red tulip he should give.

Does she agree to the question, raised from his soul?

Or will she send a hyacinth, to express her sorrow?

Alone at home he awaits.

Does yellow tulip, flower of hopeless love, express his fate?

She sends just one flower.

A flower of love, an aster.

Alas, love does begin this night.

A bouquet of purple lilacs adorn her table white.

To his beloved he gives the flower of protection, the holly,

And an orchid, not half as beautiful as his lovely lady.

The hydrangea she sends shows her thanks,

He returns to her honeysuckle, the flower her sweetness illustrates.

The bluebell as a symbol of his undying loyalty,

A single rose, the sign of their mutual simplicity.

He promises to be faithful, so a wallflower he sends

She sends him a dark-pink rose of thanks, from the flowers she tends.

Her wedding bouquet holds daisy, forget-me-not and yellow jasmine

Flowers of innocence, true love and elegance she holds in her tender hands.

Their marriage begins with the flower of trust, a spray of freesia; for them a must.

No swags of lavender adorn their home, for it’s the flower of distrust.

All through the years, their love multiplies

They continue to pick their flowers, and high above their love flies.

Their affection matures into a deep, and lasting love.

To show it, he gives her a red chrysanthemum.

One bright morning, many years after the day

Of that one original bouquet.

Remember the peonies?
Handed from a bashful beau to the soft hands of a lovely young lady?

Now her hands are frail.

Her weathered cheeks, once soft and rosy, now tell a tale.

Of many years of hardship, caring for her husband and children.

Many years of flowers, given from her to him.

And yet he gave her flowers, too.

Among them, a red rose that said,” I love you.”

On this day, her eyes will close to forever sleep.

The forget-me-not she grows in her garden, a symbol of his love so deep.

He holds her with his once-strong hands close to his heart

The worn hands are now feeble and delicate, far different then from the start.

And yet he presents to her a bouquet,

Held tenderly in his hands aged to a fine gray.

Every kind of flower he had ever given his precious wife.

Peonies, wisteria, daffodil and violet were only some he had given her in his long life.

He knows through the years they spent together,

She gave freely of her love, time and affection, to him from her.

She breathes a gentle sigh, and closes her hand around his.

He too closes his eyes, his hand tight around hers.

The pain is too great for him as she breathes her final breath.

Her eyes open one last time for a final look at his beloved face; she smiles in tenderness.

And then she is gone.

The bouquet of flowers he lovingly gathered, fallen from her hand.

He weeps loudly in his grief.

This life, so precious to him, had at last fallen asleep.

He lovingly gathers her still-warm body to his chest,

A smiling pansy, the flower of remembrance.

The remainder of this now-widower’s life

Will be filled with solitude, the flower of heather white.

He buries her beneath the pine

The symbol of hope that forever them binds.

Above his beloved he gently puts on the grave

Violet, sweet William and carnation seeds of the flowers he gave.

He knows the next spring they will mature,

And for the rest of his life he will remember:

A handful of peonies, given by a bashful beau

And the flower of innocence, a pure white rose.

A Precious Babe

In the darkened, sinister room

Yet another life is doomed.

Another precious babe

Alas, it cannot be saved.

The holocaust of this nation,

This baby, the donation.

A ‘fetus’ this precious one is called

Before to the trash it is hauled.

Unwanted, unloved

So to the murderers it is shoved.

Murderers, you ask?

Yes, I say, and their faces hide behind a mask.

I do not know

What could make one act so?

Their hearts are hardened

Can these ‘doctors’ ever be pardoned?

When they ask, God will forgive

Then, a new life will they live.

But the lives of the ones lost,

Out the back they are tossed.

And to heaven they rise

To sit by Jesus’ side.

What a wonderful place they now are!

They no longer have the scar.

But what of the mothers left down below?

Now they will feel more pain they could ever know.

Taking the life of her unborn child

The guilt and grief will upon her be piled.

And yet it happens again,

And again, and again the brutal chain.

When will this vicious cycle break?

What will finally have to happen to stop the ache?

Sadly, I know the answer not.

But they must not be forgot:

Another precious babe

Alas, it cannot be saved.
